What You’ll Get

Every week, you’ll receive:

  • Tuesday: Deep Dive – A rigorous, intelligence-style prebriefing on a pressing global security issue, breaking down the context, risks, and implications.

  • Friday: On the Horizon – Quick, high-impact assessments of 3-4 critical developments shaping geopolitics and national security.

This isn’t just news—it’s strategic prebrief designed to cut through the noise, connect the dots, and anticipate what’s next.

Who’s Behind The Safehouse Briefing?

I’m Brian O’Neill, a former intelligence officer, national security analyst, and professor with nearly 30 years of experience in intelligence, risk management, and security. I served at the highest levels of the U.S. Intelligence Community, including as Deputy Director of Analysis at the National Counterterrorism Center and Executive Editor of the President’s Daily Brief, where I helped shape strategic assessments for senior U.S. policymakers.

My career has spanned counterterrorism, geopolitical risk, emerging technologies, and military affairs. I’ve held assignments across the National Security Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Pentagon, and both the operational and analytic sides of the Central Intelligence Agency. My work has focused on threats across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa—ranging from intelligence collection and assessments to strategic planning and modernization of tradecraft.

Since leaving government, I’ve advised firms in the defense and security sectors on navigating geopolitical risk and intelligence-driven decision-making. I also teach strategic intelligence at Georgia Tech’s Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, mentoring the next generation of analysts and policymakers.

My public analysis has appeared in publications such as Just Security, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Conversation, and The Hill, focusing on intelligence reform, institutional fragility, and the global security landscape. I also contribute to the Substack publication The Contrarian, where I write on national security challenges from a more opinion-driven perspective.

I founded The Safehouse Briefing to bring that experience directly to readers—providing clear, intelligence-style analysis for those who need to understand where global dynamics may head next, and why.
